MINUTES from the April 16, 2014 Meeting read to assembly. Motion to approve. Passed TREASURER'S REPORT: None available.
LETTER AND CARD TO BRECON: D. Barnes circulated a letter sent to Ian Gerrish and Val Jones relative to the Twinning Association retiring. A card signed by SBFG members at Brecon Night was also sent to Wales.
SUMMER PICNIC FOR SUSTAINING MEMBERS: Will be held Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the home of Marge Delhey. Steve Chapin – grill-master. Assemble at 3 PM, eat at 5 PM. The Marion Rooster will appear and change residences. Jim Roth agreed to take reservations. Jane Darling and Jim Low volunteered to assist Marge Delhey. Flyers will be sent to members.
FALL FLING: Will be held on October 24, 2014 at Holy Faith Church. Betsey Hubbard is chairperson. Details to follow.
BRECON UPDATE: Jim Roth has been unable to reach Brecon council via phone. Their council meets quarterly and the phone is not always staffed. It was decided that regular mail and email would be used to communicate with Brecon. Some Brecon individuals have expressed an interest in visiting Saline. Kim Bowley is spear-heading a Soccer Association tournament in 2015 in Wales to include Salinians.
Jim Roth is attempting to have a Sister-City Commission developed through the Saline government involving both the SBFG and the SLFC. This group would be independent of the 2016 celebration.
2016. Saline City plans are developing for Saline's 150 year anniversary. Local organizations to be involved. May be held during the summer to involve students. Both sister cities will be invited.
SALINE-LINDENBERG FRIENDSHIP COMMITTEE – representative Jack Ceo indicated the Lindenberg folks are inquiring about the most convenient date for their next visit to Saline. The consensus was that either 2015 or 2017 would work.
BY-LAWS REVIEW- President D. Barnes reviewed Article I, section B “the corporation is organized exclusively for the charitable and educational purpose under Section 501(c)3 of the IRS code.”
Section C – 2. “Upon dissolution of the Corporation, assets shall be distributed for one or more exempt purpose within the meaning of Sec. 501 (c)3 of the IRS code.
Discussion followed. President Barnes indicated the SBFG, LTD. would remain as we are. Monies from our fund raisers: Brecon Night, auction items, 50/50 raffle and the Ruby Tuesday Give Back Program are used to fund the Brecon visits. “Sustaining membership dues” are separate and cover the cost of the summer picnic and fall fling.
SUSTAINING MEMBERSHIP DUES. Should the annual dues be reduced from $25 per person? Since these monies cover expenses (meat/tea/coffee/paper products/table decorations, etc.) it was decided this was a reasonable per person cost at $12.50 per event. Sustaining membership dues remain the same.
HARMONY HOLLOW BELLS – Betsey Hubbard introduced the idea of developing one of these quality bells with a motif as a gift for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the SBFG twinning. A local artisan is owner. Cost $50 and up. Information: Bradley R. Cross, PO Box 1303 Ann Arbor, 48106. 1-800-468-2355. Bcross@ harmonyhollow.com.
NEXT MEETING: October 15, 2014 at 7 PM in the Primrose Kitchenette at Brecon.
Motion to adjourn at 7:50 PM
Respectfully submitted,
Lucy Crossey Secretary
