Saline and Brecon celebrated the 45th
anniversary of their twinning with an October, 2011visit by Brecon friends who were welcomed by the residents of Saline for a two week
fall tour of Michigan.
Mayor Gretchen Driskell and Mayor Pro
Tem Brian Marl made the official welcome to Brecon Cllrs. Rosemary Evans and
Martin Weale. Former Saline Mayors Hon. Donald Shelton, Mark Hopper and Patrick
Little welcomed the Brecon friends as well. A big "Good Morning Saline" from the
Brecon contingent was aired on local television
After a brief respite in Saline, the group was off for a fall tour of
the beautiful West coast of Michigan. The scenery and the lighthouses
were beautiful and the wine was a surprise treat.
Back "home" a trip to nearby Detroit was highlighted with
a dinner cruise on the Detroit River
A "Progressive Dinner" at various Saline homes ended with
dessert and wine at the Stone Arch in Saline where everyone was greeted
and entertained by the Saline Fiddlers
Other visit highlights included a visit to nearby Sauder
Mill, Indiana, a session at an historic one room school, a dinner train
ride, and BIG ice cream at a 50s diner
A bit more "cultural" side trips included the Gilmore Car
Museum, The Air Zoo, and the Fire Truck Museum
And on the sporting side, there were visits to the
Michigan International Speedway and the largest American football
stadium at the University of Michigan
There were many informal family visits with old and new
friends and then a fond farewell dinner at the "Brecon Grille"
