ANNUAL MEETING

JANUARY 13, 2013

 

Present: Rolf and Harriet Amsler, Dottie Barnes, David and Shiela Blough, Paul and Judy Bunten, Pam and Jack Ceo, Lucy Crossey, Dick and Carolyn Cunkle, Jane and Larry Darling, Mary Hess, Pat and Glena Lilley, Mary Lirones, Jim Low, Jim and Joan Roth, Linda TerHaar, Norlaine and Harold Tinsey, Rose Carol Toth, Bruce Westlake, Sandy and Gerry Wingate.

 

The Annual Meeting was called to order by President, Dottie Barnes at 1:35 PM.

 

1.             The 2012 Saline-Brecon Friendship Guild, LTD. Annual Meeting Minutes

 from January 22, 2012 were summarized.  The minutes were accepted and approved.

 

2.                TREASURER’S REPORT as of year end 2012.

3.         SUSTAINING MEMBERSHIP DUES

 

The sustaining membership dues of $25.00 per person will be accepted today.

Monies from the sustaining membership pay for the summer picnic and the fall fling.

 

4.         LOSS OF FRIENDS IN 2012

A moment of silence was held for the friends lost on both sides of the Pond in 2012.     Saline:  Edna Laughrey

              Brecon:  Alec Gibson, Val Bell

 

     5.         BRIEF REVIEW OF 2012 SBFG ORGANIZATIONAL ACTIVITIES

 

*We purchased 4 new Brecon flags that the city flies during the Celtic Festival, Brecon Night, and visits.

 

*Two new A frames were purchased to advertise Brecon Night.

 

*Brecon Night was held on April 27, 2012 at the UAW Hall with a live and silent auction. Entertainment provided by “Kats Eye.”  David and Shiela Blough purchased the “Ambassador Jewels” for 2012.

 

*The Sustaining Membership picnic was held at the home of Marge Delhey on August 12, 2012 with our master chef Steve Chapin on the job.  The membership brought a dish to pass and a good time was had by all.

 

*The Guild received and invitation from Ian Gerrish, president of the Brecon/Saline Twinning Association to visit Brecon in 2013.  President, Dottie Barnes responded with a letter of acceptance.

 

*The Fall Fling was held on October 28, 2012 at the Stone Arch.  Master chef, Steve Chapin once again did a great job of grilling beef and pork. Membership brought dishes to pass.  We were able to use the Stone Arch Venue thanks to Larry Darling’s donated engineering talents.

 

*Ruby Tuesday “Give Back Program.”  The event was held on November 14, 2012.  Dick Cunkle chairperson.  Ruby Tuesday gave the SBFG 20% of the proceeds from that evening which amounted to $175.61.

 

*A thank you was provided to Marge Delhey, Steve Chapin, Nancy Byers, and the current board members:  Paul Bunten, vice president, Lucy Crossey, secretary, Rolf Amsler, treasurer,  Bruce Westlake, Betsey Hubbard, Dick Cunkle, Jim Low, David Blough, Jack Ceo, Pam Ceo, Jim Roth.

 

6.           ELECTION OF 3 BOARD MEMBERS TO FILL VACANCIES

 

Paul Bunten, Betsey Hubbard, and Bruce Westlake’s terms are expiring.  All three board members expressed an interest in continuing to serve.  It was moved and seconded to approve them for a three year term. Motion passed.

 

 

7.             MONTHLY BOARD MEETINGS are held on the 4th Wednesday of the    month – 7 PM in the Primrose Kitchenette at Brecon Village. All members are welcome to attend and participate.   A schedule of the 2013 meetings was available.  First meeting January 23, 2013.

The next Ruby Tuesday “Give Back Program” Fund raiser will be held on February 20, 2013.  Flyers passed out by Dick Cunkle, chairman.

 

Brecon Night will be held April 26, 2013 at the Saline American Legion.  Paul Bunten and David Blough are co-chairmen. A volunteer sign-up sheet was available.

 

Sustaining Membership Functions include the summer picnic at Marge Delhey’s and fall fling.

 

 

TRIP TO BRECON SEPTEMBER 10-24, 2013

 

Discussed in detail by Jim Roth, chairman.   Highlights include:

 

A $200 deposit/person to SBFG is due by February 1, 2013.  This deposit will be used toward the cost of the “side trip.” A visit to Cornwall is being considered.

 

Travelers to purchase their own plane ticket from Detroit to Cardiff.

 

For group “land transportation” need to be at Cardiff Airport 10 AM, Wednesday, September 11, 2013. 

 

Must have a valid passport.  Valid 6 months beyond the trip date.

 

Purchasing “travel insurance” optional. Travelex used in the past with good experience.

Host gift – provide on your own.

 

Transportation to and from Detroit airport – to be arranged.

 

The Brecon Twinning Association believes they will be able to host 20-25 people maximum.  Paul Bunten to communicate with Brecon the names of the travelers.

 

Motion by Jack Ceo that the $200 deposit be accepted on a first-come first serve basis. When the 25 people maximum is reached a “waiting list” will be generated. Second: Harold Tinsey. Approved.  Rolf Amsler is collecting and recording the deposits.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Linda TerHaar indicates the Saline District Library and the Historical Society are collecting photos from 1840-1980.  Flyers are available with more details.

 

Jack Ceo announced that he is now chairman of the Saline Planning Commission. The commission meets on the 4th Wednesday of the month.  Therefore he is stepping down from his board position.  Nominations opened to fill his term which expires 2013.  Pat Lilley nominated. Seconded.  No further nominations.  Approved.

 

Membership Directory --- new SBFG members are not listed.  Rolf Amsler volunteered to update the directory on the excel file.
